In every household there is that thing called the sock monster...you know the one. You are sitting there putting away laundry wondering where on earth could this sock have possibly gone and then you hear a strangle grumble of a satisfied tummy coming from your dryer. You let out a stream of threats to the elusive sock monster, but know deep down he is going to win and you are going to have to buy more socks!
In my house in addition to the sock monster we have added a glove monster. Oh he is a sneaky little monster! He leaves one glove and the comes back for the other till we have none! He doesn't even leave one behind so that you can pair the two singles....Oh no he is hungry and on a rampage! I can almost hear his cackle as he sneaks the gloves out in the night!
This year I was going to beat him at his own game. I bought several pairs of gloves and hid some of them in the top of my closet so he couldn't find them. Once again that sneaky little monster managed to sniff them out! Grrr! Now we are left again with one pair of gloves and its only the beginning of the cold! I will find a way to beat him, if it is the last thing I do. I will find a way! I will get you, you dirty, rotten glove monster! Mark my words!
About Me

- mommyofmonkeys
- About me....hmmm this section is a trick...what do I really have to say about me...Lets start with the simplest...I am a mom and a wife and a daughter...I am in the learning to becoming a good mom...It's like being Mr. Miyagi's student. So much work before seeing the end result...I know what you might be thinking I should already know how to be a mom, but really do people really know how to drive before they get a car? Think about it!

Mom Moment
There are those moments in parenthood that make you really feel like you are sitcom mom! Yesterday I had mine. I really consider myself lucky that I have managed to make it six years before that moment, but then again usually Jason follows behind me to minimize the amount of damage I do. I think maybe that he figured it was time to make me grow up it could be because he's been working overtime and is distracted...
Anyhow it started yesterday afternoon. The day was looking so promising, my mom called and let me know that we were going out to pizza for grandmas birthday, which means no cooking for me! I went to the washer to switch the laundry and behold my cell phone was in the bottom....I washed it (I swear it looked dirty). So as I was calling Jason to tell him that he failed at his job of making sure I don't do anything stupid I washed my phone and there was a knock at the door. So like a stupid idiot normal person I answered, the dog ran out and I dropped my brand new house phone on the cement as Ethan's friends stood there to inform me that the wailing animal sound was actually my son he was hurt and crying. So I am trying to go help Ethan, Chewie is jumping on every kid he sees. After that there was this eerie eye of the storm feeling (lol). Dinner went well. Then we got home and Matt ran to the bathroom while informing me that he had pooped in his pants. Hooray diarrhea! I went to the bathroom and told him to take of his pants. So of course when the pants get stuck at the bottom instead of waiting for me to help or reaching down to unhook them he just swings his foot. That had a great effect of spraying me with diarrhea. That was my mom moment. I know you loved how long it took me to get you there, but I had to get you in the mind set, lol!

The Ending of Summer and the beginning of schedules
We had such a great summer! We didn't really do much, but the boys had a blast frog hunting and playing out back with good friends. But all good things must come to end : ( So it is with heavy hearts that we say good-bye to the carefree days of summer. No more staying up late and sleeping in and lazying in our pjs all day! Usually I am ready for school to start the beginning of the last week of summer vacation started out feeling that way. I had a change of heart halfway through the week when I realized how much I would actually miss the boys when they went to school. I think they may be finally growing on me, lol! Here is a tribute to our lazy summer days, we will miss you : (

They boys loved starting school. I tried to get them to toss in regular school for homeschooling to no avail! Matt said he "had the best first day of school!" Followed by "But it was really boring and we didn't get to play in centers! Not even ONE time!" Awww my child has finally discovered that "real" school is not nearly as satisfying as preschool! He asked to be home-schooled. Homeschooling is for patient moms, moms who really want their children at home all the time, moms who can outsmart their kids. I am not capable of any of those things. I discovered after the first day that I more miss them in theory. When I think of them being gone (in the peace of the night) I am sad, but when they come home whinny from school it seems like less of a burden. Absence does make the heart grow fonder! Ethan really wouldn't talk about his first day. I think he is still a little nervous about all the test taking that he will be taking in the second grade! Yep you read right. He is anxious about next year! I don't know what to do with him. Still they seemed mostly happy when they came home. Lily on the other hand is in love with being queen of the house. Amazingly she goes upstairs and plays by herself. She seems to like having all of moms attention. Haha my child your day will come and then it will be vacation f or mom!

Payback
I specifically remember warning Matt to not be mean to his sister because she was going to get bigger and get him back. He laughed. Not so much anymore. I think I just got an idea of how mean he must have been when I wasn't in the room, because she has been getting him back for a while now. But today I think was some serious payback... She hit him on the eye with a light saber.

Embarrassing Kidism
So we were at Culvers eating dinner because we were too lazy to cook and after dinner they had $1 Root Beer Float specials, my favorite! Here is how the conversation turned out.
Matt: "Mom all you need for Root Beer Floats is ice cream and root beer."
Me (Stupidly): "And love!"
Matt: "What?! How do you MAKE LOVE!"
Me (slouching down in my seat trying to avoid the glares of old people): "Never mind"
Matt: "But MOMMY how DO you MAKE LOVE?"
Me: "I Lied"
Matt: "Okay you are silly."

Three kids and now some pet ducks
If you are a loyal reader of my blog (hint, hint, lol!) then you know that the other day we feed some ducks that were swimming in the canal behind our house. This morning the boys came running and down the stairs like it was Christmas morning screaming, "The ducks are back and they are waiting to be fed!" So I went to the back door thinking its way to early for this and open the sliding back door to stare right at 11 ducks waiting to be fed. Literally they were on my patio staring at me like "We're ready, feed us!"
Matt said, "I called them and they came." (Hmm maybe I have a duck whisperer on my hands).
Scared that we might another Alfred Hitchcock movie called "The Ducks" (one that is eerily similar to "The Birds") I got out our bread and the boys and I fed them, Lily stood at the screen door looking at us like we were idiots to get anywhere near those ducks! They ate their fill and waddled off back into the canal and are now floating happily back there. Now we have managed to gain eleven more mouths (or beaks) to fed : )

Aww the Joys of Parenthood
One minute I love them so much I could cry and the next minute I could hand them over to the next clean stranger (and some days I wouldn't even care about clean, anyone would do!) on the street. This afternoon it is defiantly the second one!

Muddy hand and footprints
Despite being warned several times about my children "taking a swim" in the canal behind our house I never thought that they really would... I defended them, warned them and laughed off most peoples caution. Naturally it all came back to bite me in the butt! This afternoon my brilliant children had a brilliant idea to "go swimming". Of course it wasn't "their" fault... the little canal troll whispered it in their ears. Really why would you ever think that your mom wouldn't notice your soaking wet hair, clothes and shoes? Now they (and me and lily, innocent victims) are grounded for eternity or however long I can stand having them in the house. I swear the harder I try to keep those kids alive the more careless they are! Okay I am done venting I swear...I thought I would post a few pics of summer (and for them the end of all fun!).

Pregnancy Ponderings
I was thinking about pregnancy (mostly because one of the mom's at Matt's preschool gave birth last week) and it got me thinking...
- The first three months you can keep anything down!
- The next three months you can't keep anything out!
- The last three months only your favorite foods are getting in!
- The first three months you spend a good chunk of your time peeing.
- The next three months you spend a good chunk of your time peeing.
- The last three months you spend a good chunk of your time peeing.
- The first three months you are too sick to clean
- The next three you are too tired to clean
- The last three you are frantic because your floor isn't clean enough for the president to eat off of.
- The first three months no one can wake you
- The next three you spend the night battled with your belly, your bladder and your nightmares.
- The last three...what sleep? You are too busy scrubbing that floor.
- You go in 9 months pregnant
- You come out six months pregnant and holding a newborn!

Accident Prone
Its the moment that everyone, including Jason and I, have all been waiting for...Matt's first broken (well fractured) bone. Matt was playing on the playground at a friend's graduation party and fell and hit his chin fractured his alveolar bone (its part of the jaw bone that hold your teeth in place) in three places, plus chipped a tooth through the enamel into the dentine (the layer after the enamel).

Lucky for us we had a newly graduated Doctor (Congrats Brandon!) and Mel who is a nurse there to help comfort Matt (...and Jason). Unfortunately it was very unlucky for our dentist who was out on vacation until Friday. He was very pleasant as usual. Fantastic pediatric dentist! I would highly recommend him, Dr. Wade at Children's Dental Center in Clive!
Matt is doing great, and we are waiting to see if the blood supply picks back up and he gets to keep his bottom four teeth. *Crossing Fingers* Sadly his wonderfully straight teeth are now crooked, but on the bright side its just baby teeth. At least he wasn't hurt worse (although I doubt it would slow him down, lol) and thankfully we have such wonderful friends who keep a cool head in an emergency! We are very blessed. So thank you again Mel and Dr. Bomsta!
Today I was contemplating why MY child always get hurt. I know, if you knew me as a child right now you are laughing your butt off saying "I know why!" I know that Matt takes after me, but I would like to point out that I have only had one set of stitches and NO broken bones, yet. Yeah, yeah laugh. Its not your child! Lol! I was just wondering how Matt can climb out on to the roof in his underwear in the middle of winter and be just fine or jump off of the highest things and not have scratch, but things like playing on a playground or getting down from his bed poses the most harm. Why does everyday normal things prove to be too hard for Matt to escape injury. As I was thinking this I noticed that Matt had fallen asleep (see pic below)...and I realized it is like if there is an accident waiting to happen Matt will find it (as proven by this picture of him sleeping). He even is waiting for an accident with sleep...

Elephants, Tigers and Clowns, OH MY!
The circus is in town...well not anymore technically. Clowns and Elephants and Flying women! Who could ask for anything more? Well at least for a newly turned 6 year old and a four year old you would think it doesn't get any better than that! It does, they have these wonderful men who walk around waving glowing objects that you can wave around, they even have people walking around with snow cones and spun sugar (also know as cotton candy). Never mind that you have to take out a loan to be able to afford to go : ) Lucky for us my parents got free tickets and spoiled the kids with the spun sugar and an elephant ride! I swear the circus used to be funner when I was a kid... but its still pretty amazing and the boys loved it....Lily well she is still deciding. Her favorite part was the elephants and sitting in the pirate clown's lap. Ethan and Matt loved taking their picture with the snake and the woman who was shot out of the cannon ball machine...I think I see a future career for Matt in the circus, he looked right at home.
